What is the cost for typing lessons on Learn2Type.com?
The best things in life ARE free! Typing lessons on Learn2Type.com cost absolutely nothing! Zero, no charge, free, zilch. Yes, really. Don't be fooled by other websites that offer you a measly "free" lesson then try to empty your pockets. There is no need to purchase expensive software and go through the headaches of installing it on your computer. Learn typing online, and for FREE, right here! Note that while the typing and ten key lessons are free, the optional typing certification service does have a small fee to cover the cost of the certificate, but only if you want a professionally printed typing certificate document showing your best typing speeds.
What typing software do I need to install on my computer?
The typing and ten key lessons and tests on Learn2Type.com do not require any downloads. No software has to be purchased or installed onto your computer. All you need is your Internet connection and Internet browser - as you are reading this online there is an above average chance that you already have both! Since the typing tutorial and 10 key lessons and speed tests are served directly within your browser, Learn2Type.com will work on virtually any computer system that has a keyboard (such as PC, Mac, UNIX, etc).
How do the typing lessons on Learn2Type.com work?
Unlike traditional repetitive (and boring) typing drills that used to force you to tap out the same keypresses again and again and again; the typing lessons on Learn2Type.com use a new accelerated teaching method. After each exercise, every individual's performance is evaluated on multiple dimensions. Specific weaknesses in typing technique are identified, and subsequent exercises are tailored specifically for that individual's needs. The typing student can come back at any time, any hour, and continue their typing lessons where they left off the previous session. This does require you to create a user account, which is free, in order for your performance to be recorded. And yes, the typing tutorial on Learn2Type.com DOES work well, over 5 million members have used it to learn to type!
The typing test claims I made too many errors and marked it in red?
The Learn2Type.com official typing speed test requires you to type in the exercise text exactly as shown - including the punctuation. Our exercises use a "single space" after a period (.) and some grammer may irritate linguistic puritans. Our apologies, but in the "real world", you WILL be asked to type such material so the better to practice with it. Mistakes are marked in red, and a brief evaluation will offer some insight into what the typing test server thinks you did wrong in that exercise. Note that if you miss two or more consecutive words - and this includes mis-punctuation - this could result in everything after that point being marked in red. If you examine the original exercise text shown above your typed exercise, you will notice the missing words and/or punctuation errors.
How long will it take me to learn to type fast?
As every individual learns at a different pace, and depending on how much typing practice each person puts in, it is difficult to predict any explicit timeframe for learning to type. Some of our satisfied and gratified members claim to have learned to type from as little as two weeks (with a lot of practice) upto two months (with less typing practice time). This typing tutor does provide dramatic results, you could have a noticeable typing improvement after just one day of practicing typing! Take the online typing test at any time to gauge your typing speed, and your performance improvement in typing will also be shown to you on charts.
Can I share my typing scores with my friends or prospective employers?
The free typing test and 10 key test on Learn2Type.com is made available for personal use. You can share your typing speed and ten key speed with your friends by using the various social networking links on the results pages (for example Facebook, Twitter, GooglePlus). Your daily top ten key and typing scores can also be made available on your typing score page; note that these drop off after a day (but you can take the test again, as many times as you wish). For employment, the optional low cost typing certification service provides you with a professionally printed certification document showing your best speeds (top 5 speeds are averaged for your certified speed); along with an online certificate verification page that confirms your printed document test results. Certified typing and ten key scores are visible online for a full year, but the paper document does NOT expire.
Can employers test job applicants' typing test speeds and ten key data entry speeds?
Of course! Employers are welcome to use our typing test and ten key test to evaluate job applicant skills! Note that ten key and typing certifications issued by Learn2Type.com can be verified on the typing certificate verification page that confirms the printed certificate document information (for upto 1 year from the typing test date).
How is typing speed and ten key speed measured?
Typing speed is measured in Words Per Minute, or WPM. Ten Key speed (or numeric keypad speed) is measured in Keystrokes Per Hour, or KPH. Since typing is mostly used for typing words that could vary in length, measuring a typist's speed in entire words makes sense. Likewise, 10 key is only used for entering numbers, thus individual keystrokes or keypresses are more relevant for speed measurement.
What is an average typing speed and average ten key speed?
A typing speed of 40 Words Per Minute (40 WPM) is generally considered an average typist speed. Over 100 WPM can be considered a high typing test speed. In ten key, since speed is measured in keystrokes and only with one hand, a speed of 8,000 Keystrokes Per Hour (8,000 KPH) is considered an average 10-key speed. Over 10,000 KPH can be considered a high speed in 10 key data entry. You can check how your scores match up against other members on the typing speed and the 10-key speed page.
What ages are the typing lessons suitable for?
The typing tutor on Learn2Type.com adjusts the exercise level based on the age you provide during registration for your free typing lesson account. Grown-ups receive the regular content level as found in the online typing tests. The kids typing site uses simpler and educational content designed specifically for children. The age/grade selected during account registration will provide appropriate exercise content. Note that for very small children (Kindergarten to Grade 2), no account is required, simply go to the typing for tots section for very simple and graphical kiddie typing lessons.
Can schools and educators use Learn2Type.com for free?
Absolutely YES! Schools and educational institutions can enroll in the free Learn2Type for Schools program. Note that the free version is ad supported, but schools can eliminate advertising from ALL their student account with the ad-buyout option, if desired. Learn2Type for Schools provides a central Teacher Console, that allows educators to create, manage and view the performance of their own students. These student accounts are isolated from the main website, and only the teacher who created a student account can view it. Teachers can quickly create large numbers of student accounts, with bulk adding options, or by importing from an Excel spreadsheet. Performance evaluations are displayed instantly online, and individual student report cards can be quickly printed out as well. As each enrollment is linked to the teacher registering the class, if there are multiple teachers at a school, they should enroll separately.
Personal information and privacy concerns?
For schools and kids accounts, NO personal information is collected at all. A login name is required to register for a free typing account, this along with the chosen password are only used to record scores for that individual. Some social networking options may show usernames, but these many be opted out from the Member profile section. Public forums may be made available to members, kids accounts are generally blocked from accessing these. For grown-up accounts, an email address is requested during registrations. The main reason is for sending "forgotten passwords", an inordinately large number of members tend to forget their login information, and email is the ONLY way to securely ensure that only the registered user will receive the login information. An optional performance evaluation email may be sent weekly to adults, but this can be opted out from if desired. Learn2Type.com does NOT sell or make ANY user information available to ANY third parties. Note that we do carry banner advertising, and member interactions with these advertisers are outside the privacy scope of our website.
Can I get a refund for my typing lesson membership?
You know, for a FREE website, we receive some unusual "refund" requests. The typing test, lessons and ten key test and 10-key lessons are FREE, to refund a zero charge would result in a zero refund. Hence our policy of "NO refunds", we can't refund what we don't charge! Optional services that MAY have a cost (such as ad-buyout or typing certification) also carry the same policy of "NO refunds".
